I joined for fun. I didn’t expect anything.

That moment, simple as it seemed, changed something deep inside me. In a world where many young Africans are taught to lower their gaze, that win gave me permission to lift mine.
It gave me a glimpse of what it means to be chosen.
To be seen. To believe that greatness is possible.
That quiet confidence stayed with me. It followed me into studios, onto stages, and eventually became the fire behind M.I Abaga.
Years later, I found myself mentoring a group of hungry, brilliant creatives.
After years of building together, we landed what felt like a dream, an opportunity to sign to a major international player.
Everything we had worked for seemed to be taking shape.
But when the deal came through, the system wasn’t ready for us.
The creatives weren’t protected.
The value we had built together slipped through our fingers.
That pain was familiar, and devastating.
Because I knew it wasn’t just our story.
It was the story of creatives everywhere.
Over and over, opportunities come, but without the right systems and support, they vanish before they can truly change lives.

The creative economy is projected to generate over $985 billion annually by 2030 yet African creators capture only a sliver of that value.
Without the right structures, we risk watching history repeat itself.
Creatives will be celebrated, yes, but also sidelined. Applauded, but not compensated.
